Haiti's water problem!

The UN estimates that almost one-tenth of the global disease burden could be prevented by improving water supply, sanitation, hygiene, and management of water resources. But Haiti, like many developing nations
around the world, is currently devastated by a lack of clean water and the systems that provide it.

Most water sources are contaminated with human waste because of the absence of a sewage sanitation system. Still, that dirty water is often used for cooking and drinking – exposing men, women, and children to the germs that cause cholera, typhoid, hepatitis, chronic diarrhea, and other waterborne diseases are carried in water.

In Haiti, contaminated water is the leading cause of infant mortality and illness in children. Haiti has the highest infant mortality rate in the western hemisphere. The Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO) reported that
more than half of all deaths in Haiti were due to water-borne
gastro-intestinal diseases. Nearly every water source in Haiti has become contaminated with human waste because of the absence of a sewage sanitation system. Haiti remains the poorest country in the western hemisphere, with an unemployment rate above 75% and approximately 80% living in poverty.

Cholera was introduced in Haiti in October 2010, According to the Pan American Health Organization, as of 21 November 2013, there had been 689,448 cholera cases in Haiti, leading to 8448 deaths.

A solution:

Provide a community water source.

In Haiti we are constructing water towers to provide access to clean water in the communities where we have schools under or care. These clean water locations are managed by our H2H school staff, with profits from the sale of clean water going back to supplement the cost of our feeding programs at that particular location.

School in Haiti is starting,
I need your help.

Dear Friends,
We are in need ASAP to fill our three new community centers in Haiti with benches as we are opening new schools in our new communities.

We can hire local Haitians and buy the needed materials for $100 per bench. The children in Haiti are in need of 60 benches, 20 for each of our new schools.

These photos show one of schools that we provided school desks
(benches) in 2011.

School begins in September - would you please consider sponsoring one or more benches? If you are unable to purchase a full bench for $100, please give what you are able.

100% of all donations we receive through the end of this month will go toward this great need.

Please help, please pray for this vulnerable children. Education is the key to lifting these beautiful children out of poverty.

Thank you in advance!

Soles4Souls Haiti

J
July 2015
Dear Friends
I had a fantastic week in Haiti with Soles4Souls. This amazing organization donated over 500 pairs of shoes for two of my schools and three of my orphanages.

The team from Soles4Souls worked for several hours in the sweltering heat of Haiti. They also distributed shoes to several other locations while we were in Haiti.

Check them out here: https://soles4souls.org

I also made a visit to our last project with the Caring House Foundation, the Guernsey Family Village. It is neat to see all of the customizations many had made to their homes. Almost all have added a small gutter to catch rain and also made wooden gates for their front porches.

I am so thankful for linking up with people and organizations that are making a real impact in Haiti. While we certainly are not the biggest ministry in Haiti, by God's grace we have had much success.

Thank you for standing with us. Please share this email and our efforts with others. If possible please consider making a donation for our continued work.
